Hashimoto’s

Autoimmunity almost makes no sense. I mean how could our body want to attack itself? The immune system always does precisely what it’s supposed to, even in cases of autoimmunity, such as Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis. The problem is that the immune system is continually getting the “wrong signal” to attack your thyroid gland. Where could this aberrant signal be originating from? Potentially the gut.

We now know that people with autoimmune conditions have differences in their gut bugs compared to non-autoimmune people. From there, the key is to identify what’s causing these gut microbiome differences: food sensitivities, chronic NSAID or antibiotic use, or nutrient deficiencies. And these are problems that are very challenging to address by just taking hormone replacement therapy. This is a problem that needs a gut-supportive approach, using a combination of nutrition, stress management, and sleep hygiene tactics.

Celiac’s

“I’ve been gluten-free for years, and I still don’t feel right.” We hear this regularly from our Celiac patients, and who’s to blame them? If you have Celiac, the current “gold standard” is life-long adherence to a GF diet, besides that, there’s very little therapeutics to offer. Truthfully, Celiac disease is much more than just being gluten-free. There are nutrient deficiencies to be concerned with, long-standing digestive issues, and plus, once you have one autoimmune disease, you’re at an increased risk for others.

We need to identify why your immune system went rogue in the first place. Did you experience childhood trauma? Do you have a family history of autoimmune conditions? Did you grow up eating the Standard American Diet (SAD) where eating bread constantly sent you to the toilet? Once we identify the root cause of your immune system going rogue, we can begin to restore it back to balance.

Rheumatoid Arthritis

It’s hard to work with your hands when your hands are more swollen than a birthday balloon. All joking aside, RA doesn’t make life any easier. Maybe you’ve become reliant on biologics, immune suppressants, or even OTC acetaminophen. And you feel like if you don’t take these things, you’ll struggle to function. We don’t blame you. Maybe you even tried cutting out gluten, or dairy, or you took turmeric a few times, and none of it seemed to provide lasting results.

When removed from interference, our bodies have these great capacities to heal themselves. Many times, simply removing one food or taking one supplement, won’t fix your autoimmunity. That’s because they’re not getting to the root cause of why your immune system is attacking your joints. That could include too many of the wrong gut bugs, exposure to environmental toxins, or even unresolved childhood trauma.
